How to use a Custom Session setup with Database Storage

There's plenty of information out there on how to create your own session handler for CakePHP, but when I needed to add some customization on top of the database storage system, I had to do a good amount of debugging and tracing to find out the best way to accomplish it. Hopefully, this will save you some time if you're doing the same thing.

Custom URLs from the Site Root

A number of sites nowadays are offering custom, unique URLs for people. I'm sure we can all think of one small social networking site that does this. I had a need to do this within a new Cake app I'm writing. Plus, since I'm migrating from an existing site, this is a legacy feature that must be supported.

I see you had to do quite a bit of digging to achieve what you needed. Thanks for sharing. I hope my previous article on this topic helped you at least a tiny bit :)
It absolutely did. Gave me the foundation on setting up the custom handler in the first place!

Eric

If you don't mind could you let me know which web hosting service do you use? Thanks.

- Vishal

We've actually got a dedicated server from The Planet (http://www.theplanet.com) based out of Dallas. They've taken really good care of us and I can recommend them from my experience. We'll actually be upgrading our infrastructure with them later this year.

I'm curious how you optimally have included the mentioned 3rd party libraries/projects in your project. Could you give an example of how you interact with them?
Actually, if you do some looking on the Bakery, you'll find a number of helpers and snippets for the projects I used. I do plan on doing some more articles with some of them so just keep an eye out on here. Once the site launch fever dies down a bit and everything has fully stabilized, I'll get some more writing done.

Once again. Well done!

Kind Regards,

Rob

Thanks for the kind words! As for the email, my door is always open to help another baker!
