On April 15 2005, the first version of Cake was released by Michal Tatarynowicz. On April 15, 2008, three years from this auspicious day and the start of this great project, the project continued to evolve, ensuring that CakePHP will grow and prosper for years to come.

The CakePHP team is happy to wish everyone a wonderful new year. Entering the 3rd year of the development we can reflect back on what was done. A year ago, we released Cake 1.2 dev. We have worked solidly over the last year to stabilize the new features and provide a growing platform for development. Our goals to provide the easiest framework are coming to fruition and we feel honored to share this with all of you. We have hit our fair share of bumps, received our fair share of bruises, and persevered to bring together something we can be proud of.

We have some new releases available for download. Version 1.1.18.5850 is a bug fix update to the current stable release. Version 1.2.0.5875 is the pre beta release of the current development version.

We are hoping 2007 will be another great year for CakePHP. We started things off right with the release of version 1.2. Many feature improvements keep us moving forward in our quest to make developing with Cake even easier.

Everyone loves gifts. So, we have CakePHP 1.1.12.4205[1] and 1.2.0.4206_dev[2] packaged and available on CakeForge. CakePHP 1.1.12.4205 is a bug fix release for the stable branch. Read the changelog[3] for more information on what has been updated. CakePHP 1.2.0.4206_dev is the next major version with several new features. This is a development release so not all the features are finalized and additional changes are almost guaranteed. We have been running the Bakery and most of the CakePHP sites on the 1.2 branch, and have also heard of some people using it with some success.

Well, its not often that you can take something out of the freezer and have it taste better than before, but that's what happened. We received a few more bugs and as Gwoo said in a message last week, speed was an issue. So, with the bugs that came in, we spent some time making things work a bit faster. While speed differences may vary based on your system, we noticed a nice increase[1].
