I won't be able to attend myself because of the distance but sounds like a lot of fun! great idea.

2 Plug and organise your event.

7 Schedule

Will a schedule be posted soon so everyone knows when to arrive and depart? Tickets are cheap now, but will get pricey pretty quick...

8 CakeFest schedule

@Joel: as the website and this news item says festivities will be on: February 6, 7, and 8. So as long as you can be there on those dates, you should be fine. For example I played it safely and booked Feb 4 - Feb 11, but just because I wanted to get some time to buy some things I need... And also have an ocassional beer with the gang ;)

9 Any Updates

I'm very interested in attending this event, but there's not much info here, or on cakefest.org to convince my boss that I should go. Heck, with such a short notice, I'd expect daily updates. Since this announcement, I haven't seen a single update to the cakefest site. I registered on the site, thinking that's how I could get updates, but still nothing. Maybe I'll go check my spam filter and try registering again. Am I the only one wondering?

10 Updates Coming.

My plan was to do a weekly update. As of today, we have 40 people registered. We will be reviewing the talk proposals over the weekend and the CakeFest site will get an update on Monday with a revised schedule.

We plan to start the festivities at 10am on Feb 6 and end around 4pm on Feb 8. We are also planning some time into the schedule for every attendee to share their experiences, so come prepared.

We are really looking forward to great event.

12 update..

Well it's getting close to cakefest and well... it's unlikely that a boss is going to send someone to this with planned activities such as:

* Listen to one
* Listen to another one
* Get plastered

.. not really an educational experience.

@Chad: Indeed. Unless there's an update, and there's still cheap rooms & flights available, I will not be able to get approval to go. Maybe next time. Even if it's just a party for 3 days, that's fine. Just give us something that looks good to show our bosses so that we can get the time off and go on the company bill.

Quite honestly, you could charge 3 or 4 times more if appeared more legit. I know I could get my company to pay whatever the asking price if I could show value.

14 Updates

@Chad & @Gary: we're sorry we have been taking our time to update the schedule. We are currently making sure it is as accurate as possible, which means we need to get confirmation from the chosen speakers, and as you know that is not a quick process. We do not think it would be of value to post a tentative schedule and would prefer to have something that will accurately represent the events. We'll be updating the schedule shortly. Please bear with us and wait for that update. Thanks!

15 Proposal Session Details

I submitted a proposal but didn't get any confirmation email about it - should I have, did anyone else get one? I have no idea whether the organisers received it. Did anyone submit a proposal and then the Session Details?

Submitting session details: after you have submitted your proposal you have until midnight (EST) January 18, 2008 to submit your presentation files, tutorial materials, and speaker biography.

I didn't see any instructions anywhere for how to do this. so I haven't.

Anyway, I guess I've not been accepted as a speaker as its gone past the point of notification.

Notification of acceptance: those speakers that have proposals which were accepted will be notified by midnight (EST) January 21, 2008, and will then receive additional organization details.

See you there anyhow.

Question

17 Invoice

Is it possible to get an invoice. I'm fully planning on coming, got the registration form submitted as well as a hotel room for the days of the conference...cept my job (which I convinced to pay for an event called CakeFest, a feet no one thought I could do) would like to see an invoice so they can cut me a check prior to so I don't have to pay out of pocket.

18 CakeFest invoice

@Marc: first of all thank you for joining us in CakeFest! It will be a very exciting event. To get an invoice/receipt the best thing you can do is pay for your CakeFest ticket using paypal. Just send the $199 (One Hundred Ninety Nine US Dollars) payment to donations@cakefoundation.org, tell PayPal to print you a receipt, and you'll be good to go!
